This sign manual project involved the review and consolidation of hundreds of standard signs in use by the National Capital Commission on its roadways, trails and pathways, sites and facilities. The technical specs were updated in consultation with materials vendors to ensure warrantability of all specifications. The existing paper sign manual was converted to a fully searchable, database-driven model based on open web standards.
The resulting manual is fully updatable by admin users, and browsable by regular users via a corporate intranet. Specifications for individual signs are created dynamically from the database at time of download as PDFs by users. This ensures that users get the most up to date version of specs at all times. The PDFs can be set by administrators with an expiry date, to ensure that stale specs do not remain in circulation.
